A recent email by my campaign was intended to encourage Alabamians to follow Governor Mike Huckabee's lead by using CallCongressNow.com to tell their elected officials to vote "no" on the healthcare takeover. CallCongressNow.com is a great resource that reached millions of voters across America, and I believe it had a tremendous impact on those Congressmen who were undecided on this week's vote.
We were one among many groups across America that partnered with Governor Huckabee to encourage defeat of Obamacare. However, Governor Huckabee is not a part of our campaign and to the best of my knowledge will remain uninvolved in the Alabama gubernatorial primary. Our efforts to assist Governor Huckabee's work against Obamacare were not meant to imply that he had endorsed our campaign.
As a physician running for Governor, I am in a unique position to understand health care issues, and to protect Alabama from the unwarranted and unnecessary federal intrusion into our personal health care choices. President Obama's nationalization of the American health care system will be difficult to halt or reverse unless we act now.
That is why I introduced HB 42 to amend Alabama's Constitution to prohibit mandatory participation by any individual, employer, or healthcare provider in any national health care system. Enacting such an amendment will codify Alabama's 10th Amendment rights regarding healthcare regulation, and ensure Alabama has the strongest possible legal position to challenge Obamacare before the U.S. Supreme Court. I have been urging my colleagues to pass this legislation to give Alabama's Attorney General another tool to challenge Obamacare's constitutionality under the 10th Amendment. This issue is too important for Alabama to wait until we elect a new Governor.
Like many Alabamians, I believe the future of our country is far too important to let this issue go unchallenged. Please support our efforts to prevent this bill from taking its toll on the American public, and join our efforts to halt the Obamacare mandate. I urge you to call you State Senators and Representatives in Montgomery to support House Bill 42.
Sincerely,
